Standard Chartered unveiled its Tokenised Deposits solution in Hong Kong to enable seamless, around-the-clock digital treasury and investment workflows for corporate clients across intragroup and cross-bank transactions.
Through HKMA‘s Ensemble infrastructure, Standard Chartered’s solution allows corporate treasurers, banks, investment platforms and digital asset businesses to boost the efficiency of their treasury, liquidity and operational activities.
Further, the solution is built on Standard Chartered’s proprietary blockchain infrastructure, combining the trust of regulated bank deposits with the programmability and capabilities of tokenised assets, enabling eligible clients to utilise commercial bank deposits within digital treasury and investment workflows, including intragroup liquidity management.
The solution, according to a press release, also enables tokenised deposits to be transferred in real time across participating banks, with inter-bank settlement of tokenised deposits transactions in central bank money, including wholesale central bank digital currency, on a 24/7 basis.
This is relevant to CFOs and finance leaders as it signals a shift towards 24/7 corporate treasury operations, faster cross-border liquidity transfers and more efficient cash management.
By enabling real-time transfers between participating banks, the solution could help multinational companies move funds between subsidiaries more quickly, improve liquidity visibility and reduce delays associated with traditional banking hours.
For CFOs, the development also highlights the potential of blockchain-based financial infrastructure to optimise working capital and support digital treasury transformation.
However, businesses will need to assess interoperability, regulatory requirements, implementation costs and integration with existing treasury management systems before adopting these solutions.
