Singapore remains as centre hub for Southeast Asia M&A activities

Singapore remains as the principal hub for M&A activities in Southeast Asia as structural growth drivers continue to underpin investor interest in the region.

This is amid rising domestic consumption and continued economic development seen in Southeast Asia, drawing both regional and international capital resulting to strategic buyers increasingly using acquisitions to boost growth and expansion.

According to Mergermarket, Singapore accounted for US$33 billion across 165 deals in the first half of 2026, and beyond its own domestic market, the city-state continues to serve as Southeast Asia’s main hub for capital, multinational corporates and cross-border decision-making.

Meanwhile, Malaysia and Vietnam are expected to remain active, while investor interest in Indonesia and the Philippines continues across sectors range from telecommunications and digital infrastructure to healthcare and consumer businesses.

It is also forecasted that M&A recovery in the region may be defined by a surge in transaction numbers, as Mergermarket data suggest a different trend: larger cheques, more selective buyers and intensifying competition for a relatively limited pool of attractive assets.

Deal count in Southeast Asia fell year over year  to 421 from 430 transactions, while domestic M&A and buyout activity followed a similar pattern.

Further, technology emerged as the biggest beneficiary of investor appetite in the first half of 2026 as it generatedUS$18 billion across 95 transactions.

Southeast Asia recorded US$5.65 billion across 12 exits in the half-year period, up from US$856 million across eight deals during the same period in 2025, reflecting how sponsors are finding more routes to liquidity after several years of constrained exit activity.
