Editor’s note: In today’s A Day in the Life, Dwi Putra Widiyanto, Country Manager – Indonesia at AICPA & CIMA, together as the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, shares with FutureCFO how he has learnt the importance of resilience, adaptability, effective communication, always developing skills, and having a strong team in navigating and succeeding in a fast-changing world.
FutureCFO: What does a typical day look like for you?
Dwi Putra Widiyanto: My day-to-day varies a lot, which keeps my role exciting. One thing I always do is setting out a clear plan for the day—a mix of meetings, project work, and brainstorming sessions with my team.
I also carve out time to learn about the industries that I engage with, so that I’m always well-prepared for my meetings with our existing and prospective partners.
Lunch is an informal affair, which can include a team huddle or simply some quiet time to recharge. I wrap up my day with a review of what’s been achieved and gear up for the next day, making a conscious effort to not bring any work home so that I can enjoy work-life balance.
FutureCFO: What excites you the most when you work with CFOs and finance functions?
Dwi Putra Widiyanto: Brainstorming with CFOs and finance professionals excites me because of the critical insights and perspectives they provide—it’s like seeing directly into the engine room of business.
I can see the power of management accounting and corporate finance teams, and how they inform strategic decision-making and drive business performance.
I always strive to share the benefits of earning the CGMA designation and support their professional growth through events, networking opportunities, and continuing professional development, ensuring that they can continue to guide their organisations on the path to success.
FutureCFO: Can you share an experience which was key to your professional growth?
Dwi Putra Widiyanto: In my role, I need to ensure that the offerings of AICPA & CIMA meet the needs of Indonesia-based organisations in a competitive market.
That requires me to understand the challenges and opportunities they face and tailor our offerings to help them achieve their objectives.
This has taught me the importance of being an effective communicator, being resilient and adaptable, always developing my skills, and having a strong team in navigating and succeeding in a fast-changing world.
FutureCFO: Is there anything outside work—such as a travel experience, a book, participation in a sport event or any volunteering experience—that serves as an important inspiration to your work or life? Can you tell us more about it?
Dwi Putra Widiyanto: Travelling across Indonesia has been a significant source of inspiration for me and I'm very proud of the warmth and hospitality my fellow Indonesians has shown me over the years.
They’ve had a profound effect on my perspectives on community and collaboration— their sense of belonging and shared purpose have significantly influenced how I approach relationships, both personally and professionally.
