How to effectively recruit Gen-Zers in Hong Kong

Do you have any idea how you can effectively recruit Gen-Zers in Hong Kong?

According to results of Randstad Hong Kong’s 2022 Employer Brand Research, 45% of Hong Kong’s Gen-Zers find new jobs by Googling,

The research defines Gen-Zers as people aged between 18 and 25 years.

Survey results also indicate that 44% of Millennials and 38% of Gen-Xers see recruitment agencies as the top channel for job search.

To effectively recruit Gen-Zers in Hong Kong, employers need to employ an omni-channel digital talent attraction strategy, as the younger generation use social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook to search for information, said Benjamin Elms, Managing Director at Randstad Hong Kong.

“Sharing employee stories using short-form videos, infographics and short written interviews would help job seekers better understand your company culture and know what it is like to work for your organisation,” advised.

What do Hong Kong’s Gen-Zers value?
Those who plan to recruit Gen-Zers in Hong Kong need to know the top employee value proposition (EVP) factors this age group look for in an ideal employer.

According to the survey, 61% of Gen-Zers and 59% of Millennials said that they want work-life balance.

Gen-X respondents aged between 42 and 57 years old ranked “salary and benefits” over “work-life balance”, survey results indicate.

“Even though salary is still top-of-mind for many job seekers in Hong Kong, many people we interviewed are looking for something different, be it working environment or job scope.” Elms said. “They also value working with employers that proactively organise social events so that they have the opportunity to do something fun for a change.”

Aware of what Hong Kong employees want, Randstad said it decided to launch the Workaway programme for the Hong Kong office when other countries lifted their travel restrictions.

Through this initiative, our employees get the opportunity to work from anywhere in the world so that they can spend more time abroad to create meaningful memories with their families and friends, Elms noted.

“This programme not only offers our employees work flexibility at a much bigger scale, but also a sense of liberating freedom that they don’t have to sacrifice their career or annual leave for travel quarantine or limit the time they have when they are abroad,” he said.
