Editor’s note: Embrace opportunities to stretch yourself—even those that feel uncomfortable, says Claudia Pirko, vice president and general manager, APAC, at Trintech.

In today’s Female Leadership interview, Pirko shares her advice for aspiring female finance professionals, how her career has been a journey of evolution, and why travelling is a big passion of hers.

FutureCFO: What does a typical day look like for you?

Claudia Pirko (CP): My days are quite dynamic and rarely predictable—which I genuinely enjoy.

A typical day for me starts early — usually with a strong cup of coffee in hand! That quiet time in the morning helps me set the tone for the day ahead.

From there, my focus is on balancing two key priorities: supporting my team internally and staying connected with our external stakeholders — whether that’s customers, partners, or other collaborators.

I spend part of my day checking in with the team — making sure they have the clarity, support, and direction they need to keep things moving forward. I really value those moments where I can help unblock challenges or just be a sounding board.

The other side of my day is often spent in conversations with our customers and partners, listening to their needs, providing updates, and ensuring we’re aligned on outcomes.

It’s a mix of strategic planning and hands-on collaboration — and no two days are ever quite the same, which is what I love about it.

FutureCFO: What excites you the most when you work with the finance function?

CP: What excites me most is witnessing how finance teams evolve from being seen solely as the gatekeepers of compliance and numbers into strategic business partners driving growth and innovation.

I'm particularly inspired by finance leaders who proactively challenge traditional ways of working—adopting new technologies, rethinking legacy processes, and empowering their teams to add real strategic value.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is seeing the 'aha!' moment when a finance team recognises how automation and smart processes not only improve their day-to-day operations but also elevate their strategic contribution to the organisation’s growth journey.

FutureCFO: Can you briefly describe your career journey and one or two highlights along that journey?

CP: My career has really been a journey of evolution — both in focus and in the types of challenges I’ve taken on.

In the first half of my career, I was primarily focused on the IT space, working across various roles where I learned how technology could be used to drive meaningful business outcomes.

Over time, I transitioned into the finance domain, where I’ve continued to explore how digital transformation can empower teams and deliver real impact.

I’ve worn many hats along the way — from individual contributor roles in sales and marketing teams to strategic leadership — but at the heart of every role has been a passion for bringing people together and leading teams through change.

Building high-performing, collaborative teams has always been a central theme for me.

Two highlights stand out: One is my current role at Trintech, where I’m leading the APAC growth strategy. It’s been incredibly rewarding to help scale our presence in the region and work alongside a team that’s deeply committed to delivering value to finance leaders.

The second would be guiding teams through complex transformation journeys — especially in areas like automation and digitalisation.

Watching people move from legacy systems to more modern, efficient ways of working — and seeing the confidence and energy that comes with that — has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work.

FutureCFO: Can you share an experience which was key to your professional growth?

CP: A pivotal moment in my professional journey was when I first joined SAP as part of an acquisition.

At the time, I was the only woman in the sales team under 30 — and stepping into that environment was both exciting and incredibly intimidating. The sales culture 15–20 years ago looked very different from today, and I quickly realised I was going to need to find my voice and my confidence.

That experience pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best possible way. It taught me how to adapt quickly, stay true to myself, and build credibility in spaces where I didn’t always see others who looked like me.

Instead of letting that difference hold me back, I leaned into it— approaching each challenge with curiosity, optimism, and a willingness to learn.

Since then, I’ve been through several acquisitions and major organisational changes, and I’ve always welcomed them as opportunities to evolve.

Each shift has taught me something new — about people, leadership, and resilience. I truly believe growth comes when we’re open to change and brave enough to step into unfamiliar spaces.

FutureCFO: Tell us something about yourself: What are your hobbies? How do some of these help you relax outside work? Do some of them inspire your work?

CP: Outside of work, I really value new experiences — whether that’s discovering a new place, trying a different recipe, or simply spending quality time with the people closest to me.

These moments help me slow down, stay grounded, and reconnect with what’s important.

Travel is a big passion of mine. I find it both relaxing and inspiring — stepping into different cultures and environments broadens my perspective and reminds me of the importance of adaptability and open-mindedness, both personally and professionally.

Cooking is another favourite hobby. I’m a proud Thermomix enthusiast and always on the hunt for new recipes to try! It’s not just about the food — for me, cooking is a mindful and creative outlet. It requires focus, experimentation, and balance — which, funnily enough, reflects a lot of what I value in leadership as well.

And of course, staying active is a must. Whether it’s a workout or just getting outdoors, movement helps me reset and show up with clarity and energy in all areas of life.

FutureCFO: What do you want to do in the future? Is there anything else you would like to try?

CP: Looking ahead, I’m passionate about continuing to influence how organisations embrace innovation and technology — particularly within finance — to drive sustainable growth and transformation.

I find it incredibly rewarding to be part of work that not only improves business outcomes but also uplifts people and strengthens teams.

One area I’d love to focus more on in the future is mentoring and supporting the next generation of leaders — especially women in business.

Helping others build confidence, navigate change, and grow into their potential is something that deeply aligns with my values and purpose.

Whatever the future holds, I know I’ll continue to seek out opportunities where I can lead with impact, enable positive change, and contribute to building inclusive, forward-thinking workplaces.

FutureCFO: What’s your advice to female finance & accounting professionals of today?

CP: My advice is threefold.

Firstly, be confident in your unique perspective. Diversity of thought is powerful, and your voice matters. Don't hesitate to speak up, challenge the status quo respectfully, and contribute your unique insights and experiences.

Secondly, actively seek mentors and build networks. Surrounding yourself with supportive colleagues and leaders who inspire and guide you can dramatically accelerate your career growth and confidence.

Lastly, embrace opportunities to stretch yourself—even those that feel uncomfortable. Growth rarely happens in comfort zones. Embrace calculated risks, stay curious, and always be open to continuous learning and feedback.
