Finance roles have long been evolving to keep up with the requisites imposed by the business world, be it regulatory or in terms of market shifts.
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants identified five ways for professional accountants to make a positive impact in tackling issues such as climate change, social inequality, and a widespread lack of trust.
As a finance professionals, they too can help to build a better and more sustainable world.
"A better, fairer and more sustainable world will only happen if we make it happen," says Ronnie Patton FCCA, ACCA president.
"ACCA believes that if we all work together, we can change the world. Professional accountants are perfectly placed to make practical and important contributions in shaping the safe, secure future which we all crave."
The global professional accounting body concedes that solving the biggest problems facing the world today is a challenge that faces all– not just governments and large organisations.
ACCA believes that everyone, even finance professionals, has an important role to play as individuals.
There are five key areas to focus on:
1. Drive the sustainability agenda in your organisation
2. Understand the benefits of artificial intelligence adoption as a potential huge force for good
3. Promote the importance of good ethics by upholding our code of coduct and acting as an ethics guardian
4. Advance an inclusive workplace culture by recruiting from a diverse talent pool and practsing inslusivity in your day-to-day interactions with others
5. Develop a continuous learning mindset by learning new things and being prepared to adapt to changing circumstances.
